While yesterday may not have been the happiest day for Waterford, our day was brightened considerably here by the arrival of an auspicious visitor and the extremely generous donation of an important eighteenth-century clock for the Museum of Time.
The US Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency, Mr. Edward F. Crawford and his wife Mary were here to see the progress on this fantastic new museum and to gift us the ‘Chandlee Clock’, a beautiful long-case clock made by the son of an Irish immigrant to America in 1772. This clock is a fine addition to the collection and a wonderful symbol of the long-standing relationship between Ireland and the US, a nation which became a home to so many Irish people over the centuries.
