Dark History Tours

Crime, Grime & Graveyards – Urban Underbelly Evening Tour

Date: 27th – 30th October 2026
Time: 7:00pm – 8:30pm

Price: €15.00 per person

Step into the darker side of Waterford’s past on this special after-hours walking tour through Waterford City. Available for one week only during Halloween, the tour will uncover stories of crime, punishment, imprisonment, superstition, disease and death from across the centuries.

Visitors will discover the people, places and events that shaped some of the city’s most intriguing and unsettling historical episodes.

Led by two experienced guides, this immersive tour offers a fascinating alternative perspective on Waterford’s rich heritage by exploring the parts of our history which are usually left unsaid.

From Viking Triangle to Ballybricken square, the city is filled with stories dying to get out….

Please note this tours is not suitable for visitors under the age of 16 and will contain sensitive material. The tour will take place on a moderate walking route through the city and include hills and steps, some visitors may find the loop unsuitable.

Irish Wake Museum

Children’s Halloween Workshop

Date: 26th – 30th October, 2026
Time: 2:00pm
Location: Irish Wake Museum, Cathedral Square. viking Triangle
Price: €12.50 per child, Adults join free of charge.

Following its previous success, this creative Halloween workshop returns to the Irish Wake Museum. Children will have the opportunity to design and decorate their own Halloween-themed masks inspired by folklore, traditions and seasonal characters.

The workshop encourages creativity while providing a fun and engaging activity for families during the midterm break. All materials will be supplied, and participants can take their creations home at the end of the session.

Suitable for children aged 3-12.

Due to limited capacity within the Wake Museum, we ask that only one adult accompany each child to this workshop.

Waterford’s Weird and Wicked Past

Date: 24th – 30th October, 2026
Time: 11:00am
Location: Medieval Museum, Cathedral Square, X91 K10E

Designed especially for younger audiences, these entertaining tours will explore the gruesome, strange and sometimes downright disgusting realities of life in medieval times. Through storytelling and interactive interpretation, children will learn about medieval medicine, crime and punishment, hygiene, food and other fascinating aspects of everyday life.

The tours provide a fun and educational activity for families during the Halloween midterm break.

Children must be accompanied by an adult.
